IEC published a new CIM standard

Common Information Model is an abstract model representing all the significant objects in an electric utility enterprise typically involved in utility operations.

CIM provides a standard way to represent power system assets and their relationships and accelerate the integration of independently developed network applications by different vendors. It simplifies integrating a system running network applications and other systems concerned with various aspects of power system operations, such as generation or distribution management.

The CIM expedites integration by specifying a universal language based on the CIM. It allows these applications or systems to access public data and exchange it independently of how such information is represented internally.

Main changes according to the previous edition:

  • Added Feeder modeling;
  • Added ICCP configuration modeling;
  • Correction of issues found in interoperability testing or use of the standard;
  • Improved documentation;
  • Updated Annex A – with custom extensions;
  • Added Annex B – Examples of PST transformer modeling;
  • Added Annex C – HVDC use cases.

The IPS®NMM is extended with the CIM17 data model extensions and supports the creation of both profiles, CIM 16 and CIM 17.
