A Unified Platform for Protection Asset Intelligence

EPIS provides a digital twin of your protection assets, creating a single, authoritative source of truth for all relay and IED data across your enterprise. Our platform goes beyond simple inventory management to deliver deep, component-level visibility into every device in your protection scheme.

As a core module within the Grid Operation Support portfolio, EPIS is natively integrated with our CIM-based Network Model Management (NMM) solution, ensuring relay settings are always aligned with your network’s actual topology. This integration eliminates the dangerous gap between the network model used for protection studies and the settings deployed in the field.

Measurable Outcomes for Your Utility

The value of EPIS extends beyond operational efficiency. It directly impacts the reliability of your grid, the safety of your workforce, and the financial performance of your utility.

Trusted by Leading Power Utilities Worldwide

IPS Energy serves some of the world’s most demanding power utilities. Our Enterprise Protection Information System has been successfully deployed at major transmission and distribution utilities across Europe, North America, Asia Pacific, and beyond.

Modernizing Grid Investments

Distributie Oltenia Powering over 1.5 million customers, Distributie Oltenia (DEO) operates one of Romania’s largest and most complex electricity distribution networks across seven counties in the Oltenia region. With thousands of kilometers of power lines and critical infrastructure to maintain, DEO needed to improve the way they managed aging assets, fragmented data systems, and evolving EU regulatory requirements. By partnering with IPS and local support from ADREM Engineering, DEO gained advanced simulation and analytics capabilities, allowing its team to create smarter, more transparent investment plans based on real-time asset health, demand insights, and regulatory factors. Frequently asked questions

EPIS utilizes a bidirectional, native integration with the Network Model Management (NMM) module. It maps CIM (IEC 61970) topology data directly to protection zones. When a network topology change occurs, the system flags affected relays and can trigger a re-evaluation of settings against the updated short-circuit model imported from engineering tools like CAPE or Aspen OneLiner, ensuring protection schemes remain valid.

The workflow engine is pre-configured to support PRC-027-1 compliance by automating the tracking of the 72-month wide-area coordination study intervals. It triggers alerts when studies are due, links the approved coordination study documentation directly to the specific relay settings applied in the field, and maintains an immutable audit trail of the engineering approvals and implementation dates.

Absolutely. The component-based digital asset model allows engineers to track specific firmware versions down to the individual communication or processing module within an IED. When a vendor issues a security advisory or firmware patch, you can instantly query the database to identify all affected devices across the enterprise and initiate a bulk change-management workflow to apply the patch.

EPIS features a robust master-type library with native parsers for proprietary vendor formats, including SEL (.rdb, .txt), GE (.urs). It extracts the raw setting values and maps them to a standardized, vendor-agnostic data model for enterprise-wide reporting and comparison, while still retaining the original native file as an immutable attachment for direct upload back to the relay.

Yes. Through the IPS® Relay Expert (RELEX) module, protection engineers can define standardized, template-based calculation formulas. The system can automatically pull line impedances, CT/PT ratios, and fault currents from the integrated network model to populate these formulas, significantly reducing manual calculation errors and standardizing protection philosophies across the grid.
