IPS-ENERGY USA recently attended the largest attendee registered DistribuTECH in history in San Diego, California.  Our newly designed booth could be seen from many angles on the floor, and Randy Norman, Jerry Day, and Rebecca Day represented IPS as booth staff.

“DISTRIBUTECH International® is the one event each year that gives IPS an opportunity to promote our brand to both transmission and distribution utilities of all sizes and types. We made contact with many potential customers and partners as well as current customers. With our expanding suite of products, we are attracting attention from a broader set of utility departments.  We constantly emphasized the scope and level of integration of IPS®SYSTEMS, which is unmatched by any competition.” Randy Norman

Visitors and old friends flocked to our booth, including our partner Megger and our customers ENTERGY and AEP, plus many new opportunities with discussions from individuals from Japan, Australia, Brazil, and many from the USA; we were well attended and often had demonstrations and sales discussions going on at once.

“This was my first large conference; I was struck by the wonderful energy of the conversations and how well the event was executed.  It was enjoyable  talking to individuals about how IPS can turn raw data into actionable information” -Rebecca Day.

Cigre Canada

CIGRE Canada is an annual event that gathers the global electric community to increase the expertise of power system professionals.  IPS USA’s Randy Norman and Jerry Day attended the event, sponsoring a booth and taking part in some other networking opportunities.

“Not only does CIGRE allow for presentations common in events of this type, but they also do a wonderful job of social events.  These events allow for open networking in the industry.” Jerry Day

It was a cold and snowy week in Alberta, but our team kept warm inside, sharing IPS Products and Solutions to meet the needs of current and future clients’ needs and connecting with potential partners.

In addition to his expertise with IPS®, Jerry Day also made connections by entertaining attendees with his voice in an impromptu concert with “The Dueling Pianos.”  Who says conferences aren’t fun?

The team at IPS-ENERGY USA was pleased to attend Utility Analytics Week in beautiful San Diego California.

Utility Analytics week was attended by more than 450 people from thirty-six different utility companies.  Of those, 61% were Investor-Owned Utilities, 15% were Municipal, 11% were Private Owned, 10 were Co-Ops, and 6% were international.  Over 70% of the attendees were in IT, with 13% in Customer Service, 7% in Engineering, 7% in Sales/Marketing, and 3% in operations.  Two of our customers, ESB and EPCOR, had representatives who attended the event.

All the sponsors had the same-sized booths, which were set up in such a way there was a good traffic flow.  The venue organizers did a great job directing traffic into the booth areas by having Hors d’oeuvres and drink stations; so many people walked by our booth and had the chance to discuss and get to know IPS. We had the opportunity to meet representatives from companies with whom we have done RFI/RFPs, but also new companies that have not had the opportunity to experience IPS.

The hotel that hosted the conference, Hilton Double Tree on Hazard Center was a fantastic venue.  With a beautiful outdoor space and plenty of room inside for the various classes.  The sponsor booths were in a giant Yurt with cool air (one day, it was quite hot), but we were relaxed and ready to engage with the attendees.

IPS and Svenska kraftnät (Svk) have been working together for many years. On top of the Network Model Database Project (NMDB), including IPS® Network Model Management and IPS® Outage Management System back in 2019, we have now finished the implementation of IPS® Enterprise Protection Information System (IPS®EPIS).

IPS®EPIS handles detailed information (full digital twin) of complex assets, such as relay protection and automation devices, communication devices, and similar equipment (assets consisting of multiple technical components).

IPS®EPIS supports comprehensive device setting and configuration data management throughout the whole lifecycle, from the initial change request, through the development, approval, and commissioning process, to its final verification.

Such a data repository allows Protection and Control engineers to successfully manage, track and take appropriate actions to prevent system faults and, in case of a fault, to take quick and targeted actions, identify the problem, optimize the system, and prevent additional damage.

Svk IPS®EPIS Project Implementation included:

  • location data import from the current Svk ERP system,
  • import and map legacy protection information database,
  • mapping, validation, and mass import of microprocessor relay setting data,
  • integration with Svk CIM Network Model,
  • integration with CAPE,
  • design and configuration of relay parameter values to secondary and primary values formulas,
  • design and configuration of Relay Setting Documentation report.

IPS took care of IPS®EPIS implementation and integration with existing systems. Within the project implementation stage, we held familiarization training and workshops where we trained users to use the software to its full potential.

One of the solutions that we are offering in our portfolio is focused on Protection. Since IPS® Experts are constantly working on the improvement of our products and solutions a show such as the Georgia Tech PRC is a great place to present our work.

The Georgia Tech Protective Relaying Conference was back at full strength the week of May 2nd in Atlanta, Georgia. Lori Sims and Randy Norman from the IPS USA office attended the conference and discussed the latest features of the IPS Enterprise Protection Information System with many attendees.

IPS has attended this conference each year since 2011, except for the pandemic years, to demonstrate our commitment and leadership in this area of power system management.

In case you have missed our team and still have any questions about that topic, feel free to drop us an email, we are more than happy to help!

Two weeks ago, our colleagues from the USA office attended IEEE PES T&D Conference and Exhibition in New Orleans, Louisiana.

“After being away from the conferences for so long due to the pandemic, it was great to be able to network with people again,” said Jerry Day, our Senior Application and Project Management Consultant.

At the booth, we added branding for Megger to express the strategic partnership announced last year. This allows us to leverage the wide range of data created from various tests and to therefore offer a broader solution using the IPS®APM (Asset Performance Management) system.

If you missed our team in New Orleans, you have an opportunity to catch up with them at DistribuTECH in Dallas from 23 to 25 of May. We hope to see you there.

Since the beginning of our partnership with Adrem in 2016, we have written many successful stories together.

And here goes a new one. Alongside Adrem, we are starting another big project for Distributie Energie Electrica Romania, one of the most important national electricity distribution operator in Romania.

The project covers the integration and implementation of three (3) individual but consistent and compatible, IPS®EAM, IPS®APM, and IPS®AIP Solutions, to improve customers’ asset availability, importance/condition/risk technical and financial estimation, investment planning, and cost optimization. As a part of the standard license portfolio, we are also delivering an IPS e-Learning platform to support training and knowledge transfer to all IPS®SYSTEMS users. We are hardly waiting to finish this challenging project implementation period and continue our partnership with Distributie Energie Electrica Romania, in the coming years.

Distributie Energie Electrica Romania, part of Electrica Group, provides services to over 3.8 million users, serving 40.7% of the Romanian territory, in 18 counties, covering the provinces of Transylvania and the north part of Muntenia.

Adrem ( https://adrem.ro/en/) is a leading Romanian EPC and service provider for the energy industry with a strong focus on Smart Grid and IT/OT convergence solutions and utility digitalization.

We are pleased to announce that we have completed another project!

Along with our devoted customer Tenaga Nasional Berhad (TNB), we have successfully realized the Distribution Network APMS Nation Rollout project.

The project’s main objective was to extend the existing system to all states in Peninsular Malaysia. The project was launched based on the requirements of TNB Distribution, whose employees were already acquainted with IPS®SYSTEMS based on the previous project completed in 2019.

In addition to expanding to all regions, the extension covered other assemblies that users considered crucial for monitoring. Three key monitoring groups are currently present in the system: Power Transformers, Circuit Breakers, and Tap Changers.

At this point, we would like to thank the entire team, who has been working on the implementation since the beginning, for their cooperation and commitment! The project went smoothly, from integrating and expanding the interface to creating analyses and representations of dashboards and charts according to user needs. The analytics developed during this project have been upgraded to an advanced level that we can safely call “state of the art.”

Devoted work by all teams (Maximo, Business, Analysis, and many others) was the key to success, leading to the release of a very high-quality project into production.

We would like to thank the members of the TNB team for their outstanding cooperation and excellent assistance: Muhammad Al Jundi b. Abdullah, Ng Wai Kean, Muhammad Hafiz B. Roslan, and Nursyahira bt. Sharif.

We look forward to furthering projects and success stories that we will write with TNB.

In case you missed…

IPS and Tenaga Nasional Berhad are going way back. In 2017 we started working with TNB on Asset Performance Management System and since then, IPS is part of the huge initiative of the TNB Distribution digitalization process. Check out their video below, and see, how IPS are helping them leverage the maximal value of the collected data with Data Analytics.

Brisbane, Australia: March 2022

Earlier this month, the long-awaited Energy Networks Conference & Exhibition was held in Brisbane from 16th to 18th March 2022, at the Brisbane Convention & Exhibition Centre, with 800+ Delegates and 70+ Exhibition Booths, with all participants very excited, busy and engaged throughout the packed 3-day event. In fact, the level of excitement was palpable, as people in the Energy Industry from all over Australia and beyond came together in one place, almost as a celebration, after more than two years of severe COVID travel, event and gathering restrictions.

The Energy Networks Australia (ENA) Conference and Exhibition brought together the best in the industry to share expertise on how we navigate and transform our 20th-century Grid in Australia so that it can deliver energy and provide services and value the way consumers of the 21st-century demand.

The event connected people from across the Energy Industry and provided opportunities to strengthen existing relationships and create new ones and is the only conference and exhibition on the energy network event calendar in Australia run by the industry, for the industry.

IPS (Greg Jones and Vishu Yemula from our Melbourne office,) were there to enthusiastically participate with Conference and Exhibition Booth attendances, including a presentation by Dr Zeljko Schreiner (remotely from Germany), on Grid-Driven Analytics (RTE Transmission, France) on Day One of the Conference.

This year, as an extra incentive for delegates to find out more about IPS®SYSTEMS Products and Solutions we included a promotional “IPS Luna Challenge” online quiz game at our exhibition booth (with live appearances by “Luna” at set times on both Exhibition Days), where participants could start playing at “Core Level” and then choose to advance up to “Executive” and “Enterprise” Levels provided they scored all answers correctly at ‘Executive Level. This turned out to be a fun and interesting activity for delegates, which added significantly to the level of engagement at our Booth and prompted many questions and interest about IPS Products and Solutions!

Overall, the Energy Networks Conference and Exhibition seemed to be appreciated and enjoyed by all, and we are now further engaging with our new and existing contacts to provide further information, presentations and Demos, for a more complete understanding and appreciation of the advanced functionality and intelligence of IPS®SYSTEMS and how IPS works closely with our Customers to help them to achieve success in their Asset Management and Digital Transformation journeys into the future!

If you missed the opportunity to see a presentation and chat with our team at the event, you can still do so by booking a free demo of our solutions tailored to you.
